Since the unit grounds through its own metal frame, it is a good idea to scrape away a small patch of paint or rust where the mounting screws meet the trailer to ensure a solid electrical connection. Applying a small amount of clear silicone sealant around the wire entry hole on your trailer frame will prevent moisture from traveling down the wire and causing internal corrosion over time.
