Shelf Hardware
Shelf hardware brackets and support are what keep a loaded shelf from pulling away from the wall — and size, style, and weight rating are what separate one bracket from another. Standard L-brackets work for most closet and pantry shelves; heavy-duty and super-strength versions handle deeper spans or shelves carrying real weight like tools, paint, or canned goods. Shelf/rod combination brackets serve double duty in closets where a hanging rod and a shelf occupy the same wall space. Bracket depth should be sized to match or run slightly shorter than the board it supports.
