Only place as much as the bees can consume in about a week to prevent attracting small hive beetles or wax moths to the leftovers. I suggest checking the consumption rate during your weekly inspections to determine if the colony needs another portion. If the patties start to dry out, you can lightly mist them with a little sugar syrup to make them soft again. Avoid placing them too far from the brood nest, as the nurse bees won’t leave the cluster to find them during cold snaps. Using a shim or an empty super can provide extra space for the patties if your hive covers fit too tightly.
