Polypropylene ropes can be tricky to cut because the ends tend to fray immediately. To prevent this, use a sharp blade, and immediately after making the cut, hold the ends briefly over a heat source like a lighter or torch. This quickly melts the fibers together, or “fuses” the end, creating a permanent, clean seal that stops the braiding from unraveling and makes re-knotting much simpler.
