Maintaining the correct fluid level is the easiest way to prevent your jack from becoming air bound or losing its full lifting height. Before you add any oil, make sure the jack is fully lowered so you do not overfill the reservoir, which can cause the fluid to spray out of the vent once the jack is under pressure. If your jack feels jerky or will not reach its maximum height, you likely have air trapped in the system; simply opening the release valve and pumping the handle rapidly a few times usually clears those bubbles right out. Be sure to wipe down the fill plug area before opening it to prevent any grit from falling inside, as even a tiny piece of dirt can ruin the seal on a high pressure valve.
