When installing the hose onto the barb fittings, a small amount of heat from a hairdryer or dipping the end of the hose in hot water will temporarily soften the vinyl or rubber, making it much easier to push over the barb for a tight seal. After the hose is seated, always use a quality stainless steel hose clamp to secure the connection, even if it feels snug. These ports are made of plastic, so when tightening them onto the pump manifold, ensure you use only hand pressure; over-tightening with a wrench can crack the manifold housing.
