When you install this hook and eye set, be sure to pre-drill small pilot holes for both the hook and the eye screws. This will make it much easier to screw them in by hand and will prevent the wood from splitting, which is especially important with harder woods. Also, for the most secure fit, mount the eye on the door frame and the hook on the gate, or vice-versa, making sure they line up so the hook can be dropped into the eye with a little bit of slack.
