To ensure your grease gun always primes quickly, you should avoid mixing different types of grease, as incompatible thickeners can cause the lubricant to harden and clog the internal valves. You should store the gun in a horizontal position when not in use to prevent the oil from separating and leaking out of the handle or coupler. If you find the gun is not pumping, simply open the bleeder valve slightly while pushing the follower rod forward to purge any air trapped between the grease and the pump head. It is a good practice to wipe the coupler clean before and after every use to prevent road grit from being forced into your machine’s delicate bearings.
