A common oversight during installation is not using the correct fasteners. This post anchor requires both an anchor bolt (usually 5/8 inch diameter with 4 inch embedment into the concrete) and the specified nails to connect the wood post to the anchor’s side flanges. Do not substitute lag screws or other nails for the code-required 16D common nails. The full load capacity of the anchor depends on using the specified fasteners. Always consult your local building code requirements before you begin construction.
