Close all windows and outside doors, including basement and attic windows, for at least 12 hours before the test and keep them shut until the detectors are capped. Set the detectors about 2 feet off the floor, 3 feet from outside walls, and 6 inches apart, away from the kitchen, laundry, vents, and direct sun. Mail them back within 24 hours of ending the test, and register the kit online so the report finds you quickly.
