As with any oil-based finish, all used rags, applicators, or other materials soaked with this product pose a fire risk. To avoid spontaneous combustion, immediately after use, submerge all oil-soaked items in a sealed, water-filled metal container. For the best waterproofing on items like butcher block, apply multiple thin coats (three to five coats are generally recommended), allowing each coat to absorb for about 40 minutes before wiping off any excess oil that pools on the surface.
