After roughening the tube with the metal buffer, ensure the area is completely free of dust and moisture before applying a thin, even layer of the rubber cement. The most common mistake is applying the patch too early; wait until the cement becomes “tacky” or slightly dull in appearance (usually 1–2 minutes) before firmly pressing the patch onto the tube. Once the patch is applied, use a smooth object or your thumb to apply heavy pressure from the center outward to remove any trapped air bubbles.
