When using this treatment for the first time in an older engine, it is a good idea to have a spare fuel filter on hand; the enzymes are so effective at cleaning that they may loosen existing tank deposits which can then migrate to the filter. For the best results, always add the treatment to the tank just before filling up at the pump to ensure the flowing fuel mixes the additive thoroughly. While the initial dosage is slightly higher to clean the system, a maintenance dose of one ounce per 16 gallons of gasoline is usually sufficient for ongoing protection.
