When installing this coupler, ensure you use high-grade mounting bolts and locking nuts to secure it to the trailer tongue, as the hardware must withstand the same weight rating as the coupler itself. It is a good practice to periodically check the adjustment nut on the bottom of the unit; the coupler should be tight enough that there is no vertical play on the ball, but loose enough to allow the trailer to pivot freely during turns. To prevent the internal spring and latch from seizing, apply a small amount of waterproof marine grease to the moving parts of the handle and the inside of the ball socket before each season.
