Welded Wire
Welded wire is a step up from hex netting in strength and rigidity, making it a better fit for dog kennels, animal enclosures, garden fencing, and anywhere that needs to hold its shape under pressure. The grid pattern (typically 2″x2″ or 2″x4″) stays more uniform than twisted wire products, and 14 ga is the common weight for general livestock and kennel use. Height options range from 24″ for garden borders up to 72″ for taller kennel panels. Nixa Hardware & Seed Co carries welded wire in several mesh sizes and roll lengths, including kennel-specific options from Red Brand designed for containing dogs.

How To Stretch Welded Wire Fence
Tensioning welded wire is a bit different than stretching a standard field fence because those tiny welds can snap if you get too aggressive. The best way is to use a 2×4 “sandwich” to pull the whole height of the mesh at once. You bolt two boards together over the end of the wire and then use a come-along or a winch to pull the boards toward your anchor post. This spreads the pressure across all the horizontal wires instead of just pulling on one or two, which keeps the fence from warping or buckling. You want it just tight enough to take the waves out of the roll without stressing the metal to its breaking point.
How To Connect Welded Wire Fence
Running into a situation where you need to splice a fence usually calls for a handful of crimp sleeves or specialized wire connectors. You feed the horizontal wires from both rolls into the sleeve and then use a crimping tool to crush the metal together, locking them in place. Many landowners in the Ozark-Nixa corridor find this to be the fastest way to repair a broken section without having to replace an entire run of fencing. If you don’t have sleeves on hand, you can always twist the wires together manually, but it’s harder to get the tension even across the whole height of the fence. Making sure every horizontal strand is connected is the only way to keep the structure rigid over time.
