Super Glue

Acetone or a simple nail polish remover is the quickest way to dissolve super glue if you accidentally bond your fingers together. Soaking a cotton ball and dabbing it on the area usually causes the adhesive to soften and peel away within a minute or two. The most important thing to remember is to avoid the temptation to just rip your fingers apart, as that is a fast way to lose a few layers of skin. Just be patient and let the solvent do the work. Once the glue is gone, some lotion helps get moisture back into your hands.

Standard super glue can usually handle a splash of water, but it isn’t really designed to live underwater. Most cyanoacrylates—the technical name for the stuff—will eventually break down if they are constantly soaked or submerged. If you are fixing a coffee mug that goes through the dishwasher every night, the handle might end up back in your hand after a few cycles. It is plenty tough for most indoor household repairs, but for anything that needs to survive a truly wet environment, looking for a formula specifically labeled as water-resistant is a much safer bet.
