For maximum bond strength, ensure the mating surfaces are completely clean, dry, and free of old gasket material or oily residue. Using a solvent like brake cleaner or isopropyl alcohol on metal surfaces before application can significantly improve adhesion. Once applied, allow the sealant to “skin over” for about 10 to 15 minutes before joining the parts, and wait a full 24 hours for the silicone to reach its maximum cured strength. To prevent the remaining product from hardening in the tube after use, squeeze a small amount of silicone past the nozzle tip and allow it to cure, forming a natural plug that can be easily removed the next time you need it.
