You should submerge the intake end of the tube completely in the liquid and squeeze the bulb several times until the fluid passes the “peak” of the hose and begins to flow downward on its own. While this pump is excellent for fuel and water, you should avoid using it with highly caustic chemicals or extremely hot liquids that could degrade the plastic tubing. It is a good practice to rinse the pump and tubing with clean water after each use, especially if you have transferred gasoline, to prevent the material from becoming brittle over time.
