Arid DR orchard grass seed is a cool-season perennial bred to handle dryland conditions with drought tolerance and disease resistance you can count on. It offers strong resistance to stripe rust and powdery mildew, plus moderate resistance to scald brown stripe, helping protect yield and stand health when disease pressure shows up. Expect faster establishment than fescue and quicker regrowth after cutting or grazing, making it a solid fit for dairy-quality hay and dependable pasture. With excellent winter hardiness and great persistence, Arid DR brings excellent winter hardiness and great persistence to the stand.

Additional Information
Arid DR orchard grass seed wasn’t just selected for drought tolerance—it was developed by a plant pathologist who specialized specifically in the infectious diseases that kill grasses. That background shows up in the field: the disease resistance isn’t a side trait, it’s the foundation the whole variety was built on. Higher production, great persistence, and a stand that keeps producing are all tied directly back to how well this orchardgrass holds off disease pressure.
Getting a stand started right matters. Fall planting is strongly suggested (Sept 1–Oct 20, with the best window Sept 15–Oct 15), but spring planting can also work (Feb–Apr 15) when that fits your schedule. Stick with the unhulled seeding rate of 15 lb per acre, aim for a soil pH of 5.5, and plant at the recommended depth with good seed-to-soil contact—orchardgrass rewards a clean, firm seedbed or a properly set drill.
Once it’s established, that quicker turnaround after cutting or grazing starts paying off—less waiting around between cuttings and more flexibility in how you manage grazing rotations. Arid DR orchard grass is well regarded for high palatability and medium maturity, making it a dependable forage option that livestock stay on well season after season.
Don’t plant cool-season grasses by themselves if you don’t have to—we strongly suggest adding a legume right in there with it. Red clover, alsike, ladino, or alfalfa all work fine alongside Arid DR.
