Daikon radishes have been a good fit in our deer plots for many seasons. We seed them in late summer and they come up quickly, put on a lot of leafy growth, and send a big taproot down through packed soil so water and roots can move more easily. Once you get a good frost, the tops sweeten and deer really start working both the foliage and the roots. When you sow them a little on the heavy side, the roots leave the soil mellow and broken up after they rot out. Seed is kept shallow—around a half‑inch deep—and they establish fine. Daikon Radish Seed also works well around the edges of other food plots or mixed in with turnips when you want something deer will hit earlier in the fall.

For best stands, aim for a firm seedbed and keep Daikon Radish Seed no deeper than about half an inch so it comes up quickly. If you’re broadcasting daikon seeds instead of drilling, a light drag or pass with a roller helps tuck the seed in and cut down on bare spots. Give the stand at least three to four weeks of growth before grazing so the tops and roots have time to build decent feed for deer and livestock.
