Flooring Glue

Laying tile, vinyl, carpet, or cove base that actually stays put starts with the right adhesive for the job. Flooring glue bonds flooring materials to subfloors and walls and takes a lot more abuse than people expect: foot traffic, temperature swings, moisture. Henry makes solid options here, from multipurpose high-strength adhesive for heavy-duty installs to outdoor carpet adhesive for porches and utility spaces. Make sure your subfloor is clean and dry before you spread anything. That’s the step most people skip and the reason most floors fail early.

Can You Glue Down A Floating Vinyl Floor

Sticking a click-lock floor to the ground might seem like a way to make it feel sturdier, but it often backfires. Floating vinyl needs room to breathe, and flooring glue prevents that expansion. In our experience, once those planks are glued, you lose the ability to easily replace a damaged piece later on without ruining the subfloor. If you really want a glued-down finish, it is better to buy the specific “dry-back” planks that were designed for adhesive from the start.

What Glue To Use For Vinyl Flooring

Most people find that a high-quality acrylic-based adhesive works best for vinyl because it handles the plasticizers in the flooring without breaking down. This flooring glue provides a waterproof bond that keeps your edges from curling up in the kitchen or bathroom. If you are working with peel-and-stick tiles that aren’t staying put, a thin coat of supplemental primer can give the factory adhesive the extra grip it needs. Our team suggests working in small sections so the glue doesn’t dry out before you can get the vinyl laid down.
