Humidifiers
Dry winter air does a number on a house. Cracked skin, static electricity, wood floors and furniture that shrink and gap, and respiratory irritation make cold season harder than it needs to be. A humidifier adds moisture back into the air and makes a heated home noticeably more comfortable through the winter months. Keeping the water tank clean and using a humidifier water treatment extends the life of the unit and keeps mineral buildup from becoming a problem.

What Does A Humidifier Do
We use these to combat that desert-dry air that creeps in once the frost hits the ground. Humidifiers release moisture into your living space, making it a whole lot easier to breathe and sleep without waking up feeling like you have swallowed a bag of sawdust. By maintaining a bit of dampness in the air, Humidifiers help keep your nose and throat from drying out. We also noticed that our houseplants seem a lot perkier when we have one running. It is a simple tool for keeping the indoor climate from getting too harsh when the wood stove is working overtime to keep the chill away.
How To Clean Humidifier
We tackle this chore by making it a part of our weekly routine so it never becomes a headache. We usually empty the tank, fill it with a bit of water and a splash of vinegar, and let it sit while we are out in the garden. Once we get back, we rinse it until the vinegar smell is gone and let it air dry. Keeping your Humidifiers free of gunk ensures they last longer and work better. We also suggest using distilled water if your well water is particularly hard, as it saves you from having to scrub away those stubborn white crusty bits quite so often.
