Grease Guns & Supplies

Regular greasing is one of the easiest ways to extend the life of farm equipment, trailers, and vehicles, and having the right grease gun setup makes it a quick job instead of a dreaded one. Nixa Hardware & Seed Co carries a full range of grease guns from LubriMatic, including manual lever, pistol grip, and pneumatic models, along with fittings, couplers, and flexible hoses for hard-to-reach zerks. Multi-purpose lithium grease handles most general applications well, but if you’re working around water, like on a boat trailer or marine equipment, a marine-grade white lithium grease is the better call.

How Does A Grease Gun Work

Think of a Grease Gun as a high-pressure pump that forces thick lubricant into tight spaces where a brush or a finger simply can’t reach. Inside the barrel, a heavy-duty spring-loaded plunger keeps constant pressure on the lubricant, pushing it toward the head of the tool. When you squeeze the lever, a small internal piston grabs a bit of that Grease and shoves it out through the nozzle. This creates enough force to move the check ball inside a fitting and replace old, gritty lubricant with fresh stuff, which is what keeps your bearings and joints moving quietly.

How To Load A Grease Gun

Loading a Grease Gun is a quick process once you get the hang of the sequence. First, pull the plunger handle all the way back until it locks. Unscrew the head and pull out the empty tube. After popping the plastic cap off your new cartridge of Grease, slide it into the barrel with the open end facing the head. Once you’ve removed the metal pull-tab from the top, screw the head back on most of the way. Releasing the plunger and pumping the handle a few times should clear the air and get the lubricant flowing steadily.
